the IIT !

The Indian Institute of Technology

its 7 am, inside a 1000 seat auditorium, jampacked with students and parents. Its d month of august, but thanks to the A/C, i couldn’t feel the heat. Barely 15 mins after i sat down in the auditorium, a man in his late fifties (who later introduced himself as the deputy director) came on the stage.
his very first words go like this…
In India, there are two type of engineers,
the first kind – IITians and the other kind – those who wish they were IITians

the audi was filled with a loud applause…
dedicated to the service of the nation……

the premier institute of engineering and technology in the country, the pioneer, the leader, well well i’m falling short of words.there’s so much hype and huhaa about the IITs .But what is it that makes IITs so great…??? ever thought of it…???

ok I’ll try to answer my own question by quoting some reknowned persons across the field.

“The rise of IITians, as they are known, is a telling example of how global capitalism works today.By rising to the top of corporate America, these alumni lead all other Asians in their ability to raech the upper echeleons of world class companies.” – Buisness week

“Put Harvard, MIT and Princeton together and you begin to get an idea of the status of this school in India.” – CBS 60 Minutes

A research carried out at UC berkeley estimates that almost 20 % of all start-ups in Silicon Valley are IITian-owned.

A lot has been talked about the IITs but what is so great about it that compels people to comapre it with MIT and harvard despite the fact that the revenue IITs have is not even a fraction of what the top notch colleges like MIT have.

hmmm…… this must be the toughest question to answer, but still through my coming posts i would try to give you the inide story…

even windows needs some rest…….

how long can windows run without being shut down……???

read on…

Here is a bit of information, which may surprise you all. Windows crashes
automatically if you don’t switch off the machine for 49.7 Days. Microsoft accepts
this. Do you know why?

In Windows the Virtual Machine Manager (here after referred as VMM) is responsible
for creation, execution, monitoring and termination of virtual machines. This VMM,
which is a 32 bit, protected mode operating system entity, provides a number of
system services at chip level. One of these services is “Get_System_ Time”. This
particular service loads the EAX register with the time in milliseconds since
Windows started on that machine. This service is accurate to 1 ms. EAX is a 32 bit
register in Intel 386 Processor onwards.

So the maximum number of milliseconds it can hold is
(2^32)-1 = 4294967295 milliseconds = 4294967.295 seconds = 71582.79 minutes = 1193
hours = 49.7 days.
So after 49.7 days the EAX resets to zero. Most of the Drivers use this Time Service
to keep track of the Timeout of various services they provide. So after 49.7 days
the drivers cannot use the Get_System_Time function of VMM and they crash taking the
OS along with.

shutdown icon

well, many of us feel to lazy to shutdown our system, just ’cause shutdown requires you to go to start>>turn off computer>>turn off……..

certainly this is not for those who bath dailyor brush twice….they may consider switching to some better sites ….bt for those who’re really lazy like me …..go on……..

first of all we go for SHUTDOWN icon……..

Select New>Shortcut.
In the first box of the Create Shortcut Wizard, type : Shutdown -s -t 00
Click Next.
Name the shortcut : Shutdown , and click Finish.
Then select an appropriate icon for it !

Similarly create a RESTART icon but follow the folowing step instead :
